Khloe Kardashian is known for her hoop earrings — and she buys them at a surprisingly affordable store

khloe kardashian hoop earrings

With multimillion-dollar beauty brands, a hit show, and profitable Instagram deals, the Kardashian-Jenners have undeniably made it big. Still, they're fans of inexpensive finds, proving that no matter how rich and famous you become, you can never pass up a good deal. Case in point: Khloé Kardashian's affinity for Claire's.

On Sunday, the 33-year-old reality star revealed on Twitter that she swears by the inexpensive mall staple for her signature hoop earrings. The E! personality spilled her secret when a fan asked where she can find hoops as big as Khloé's. And though the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star is partial to Nine West (still affordable) for her ridiculously huge hoops, she revealed that the bulk of her hoop collection is from Claire's.

"I got my really big ones at Nine West. I only buy inexpensive hoops because I loose [sic] them often. The rest are from Claire's," she tweeted.

Now, you might be wondering: With all that money, why is Khloé Kardashian shopping at Claire's? According to her responses to fans, the youngest Kardashian sister is a huge scatterbrain. Considering how many hoops she's lost in her life, Khloé is partial to under-$10 earrings, so if she ruins or loses them—like when she's swimming in the pool—it's no big deal.

It's important to note that Khloé has a problematic past with hoop earrings. She, along with almost all of her sisters, has been accused of cultural appropriation, and her affinity for big hoop earrings (which she controversially called "hoochie hoops") is a part of that.

One of Kim Kardashian's favorite designers used a racist slur in a note to a popular blogger — and her apology made things worse

Miroslava Duma and Ulyana Sergeenko

  • Designer Ulyana Sergeenko and style blogger Miroslava Duma are in hot water over their use of a racial slur.
  • Sergeenko sent a note to Duma that read "To my n----- in Paris."
  • Duma posted a picture of the note to her Instagram and both women faced immediate backlash from key figures in the fashion industry.
  • In a now-deleted Instagram post, Sergeenko issued an apology that has only made things worse. Duma also issued an apology statement on Instagram.
  • Duma has since been removed from the board of The Tot, a children's company she co-founded in 2015.

Pairs Haute Couture Week is well underway, but not without its fair share of controversy. Kim Kardashian West-favorite designer Ulyana Sergeenko and influencer Miroslava Duma are facing backlash over their use of a racial slur.

On Monday night, Duma, of Buro 247 and The Tot, uploaded an invitation to Sergeenko's Tuesday runway show to her Instagram story. "To my n----- in Paris," Sergeenko wrote , referencing Kanye West and Jay Z's song "N----- in Paris."

The women faced nearly immediate backlash over the post. Duma's original Instagram story is no longer publicly visible, as she reportedly deleted it within hours, but several people have reposted screenshots of it.

Noted street style photographer Adam Katz Sinding called the women out on his Instagram story. "Seriously!? Why would you a) write this b) post this," he wrote.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell reposted Sinding's Instagram Story to her own profile. "This better not be real!" she added.

Later, Diet Prada, an Instagram account dedicated to calling out misconduct in the fashion industry, posted its own take. "Dear Fashion, can we please re-evaluate who we decide to put on a pedestal?" the caption of the post said.

Following the backlash, Sergeenko reportedly posted and then deleted a series of apologies on Instagram, according to W Magazine. INSIDER was able to view one of the designer's statements thanks to a screenshot of the post taken by Garage

apology

In the apology, Sergeenko confirmed the inspiration behind the note.

"Kanye West is one of my favorite musicians and NP is one of my most favorite songs. And yes, we call each other the N word sometimes when we want to believe that we are just as cool as these guys who sing it," she wrote.

The designer also elaborated on Duma's role in the situation.

"Mira is a dear friend and even the fact that she so naively posted my private card to her on her social mans that we meant nothing wrong and didn't realised [sic] the consequences," she wrote. "I have certainly learned my lesson and I am grateful for it."

But her apology only seemed to make things worse. Since Segreenko deleted the post, people are commenting on the designer's posts from late 2017.

"The fact you deleted the apology just goes to show you're not sorry at all. You're sorry for getting caught," one Instagram user commented. "Sorry but with so many people getting press for similar issues there is no excuse to not be informed. These girls live on social media where stories like Galliano having his racist rant or recently [H&M] have been well publicized for them to know better," someone else added.

One person urged her to learn from this situation. "Please do better & learn from your awful mistake. It's not okay on any level for you to use that word," they wrote.

Garage Features Editor Rachel Tashjian reportedly saw Sergeenko looking upset while using her phone backstage after her runway show on Tuesday.

"I'm so upset that I spoiled it," Segreenko reportedly told Tashjian of the fashion show.

Duma also apologized on Instagram on Tuesday. The blogger has since disabled comments on her Instagram profile, but she previously received reportedly critical comments, according to Refinery29.

The influencer concluded the post by saying she and her organizations, including Buro247 and a children's company called The Tot that she co-founded in 2015 along with Nasiba Adilova, "are committed to our core values of inclusion and diversity."

But later on Tuesday, Adilova announced on Instagram that Duma was removed from the board of The Tot because of the post.

In the caption of the post, Adilova wrote that she was "deeply saddened and disappointed by the actions of Miroslava Duma at Paris Fashion Week," but stands by The Tot's decision to remove Duma from its board.

Representatives for Miroslava Duma and Ulyana Sergeenko didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's requests for comment. In the meantime, you can read both of their statements below.

Sergeenko:

"I woke up this morning with my phone full of insulting messages, 'you deserve the worst in your life,' 'die white trash'…and so on. I was born on a small town in East Kazakhstan, my daughter is half Armenian, I have never divided people white or black. I have certainly learned my lesson and I am grateful for it. There is enough anger in the world out there, please, can we stop it here?"

Duma:

"I sincerely apologize for my regrettable Instagram story that went out.

The Kardashians' hairstylist shares her secret to eliminating frizz — and it's all about how you dry your hair

jen atkin

  • Frizz and static are common hair problems that can be tough to manage.
  • Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin says using either a T-shirt or microfiber towel to dry your hair can help eliminate frizz.
  • She also recently released the OUAI Anti-Frizz Sheets after noticing it was a common problem among her followers.

Whether winter is in full force or summer is heating things up, bad hair days are tough to escape when it comes to naturally frizzy hair.

For those struggling to tame frizz and static who dream of having super sleek locks like Kim Kardashian West, her frequent hairstylist Jen Atkin says it's all about how you dry your hair.

"One of the biggest secrets to fighting frizz is using a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to squeeze any moisture out," Atkin, who is the founder of OUAI Haircare, told INSIDER. "Terry cloth towels strip hair of too much moisture and cause frizz."

If ditching your normal towel isn't enough to do the trick when humidity hits in the warmer months, Atkin also advises to always protect against heat and sun damage.

"I always suggest using a UV protectant on the hair to protect color from fading or environmental damage," Atkin said. "Moisturize and beware of sun damage — yes it can tarnish your strands and lead to frizz or color fadage!"

She specifically recommends the OUAI Hair Oil to help create a UV barrier, as well as applying a hair treatment masque before spending long amounts of time in the sun.

Atkin also recently released travel-friendly Anti-Frizz Sheets that can be swiped through hair to help eliminate frizz and static — something she says her customers have specifically asked for.

ouai anti frizz

"A lot of our followers have complained about frizz during winter and humidity weather," she said. "We created an alternative product that just focused on frizz but was also travel-friendly."

While Atkin is happy to share her tips, tricks, and favorite products, her biggest piece of advice is to love the hair you've been given.

"ALWAYS embrace and enjoy your natural texture, instead of fighting it," she said.

The best women's skinny jeans you can buy

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

skinny jeans 4x3

The Insider Pick:

  • We've tried more skinny jeans than we can count. After testing the best new skinny jeans, Warp + Weft got our vote for best overall with its vast size offerings, various inseam lengths, sub-$100 prices, and different skinny jean styles.

For many women, skinny jeans are a wardrobe staple. For one, they can be styled to look ultra casual or night-out polished. Skinny jeans are generally comfortable, with a good amount of stretch woven into the denim. The slim-fit silhouette is flattering across a variety of body types. Plus, there are now a wide range of washes, rises, sizes, and lengths available from affordable denim brands — many of which are also dedicated to body inclusivity.

If you’re reading this article, I’m certain that you’ve owned plenty of skinny jeans before. You may already have a couple of favorite go-to pairs. Maybe you haven’t found a pair you absolutely love yet. But what I do know is that even the most avid skinny jean wearers tend to diversify their arsenal. After all, different jeans offer different things.

That's why we tested several different skinny jeans to come up with this buying guide to the best skinny jeans offered by the buzziest direct-to-consumer denim brands and to decode the key features that may be most important to you when shopping for a pair of skinnies.

Read on in the slides below to learn why Warp + Weft makes our favorite skinny jeans and why you might also like those from Everlane, Liverpool Jeans, Mott + Bow, and Universal Standard.

SEE ALSO: We tried the skinny jeans the internet has been raving about — and they really are that slimming

The best skinny jeans overall

Why you'll love them: With sizes ranging from 00 to 24, Warp + Weft skinny jeans offer a wide spectrum of trendy and classic styles for every kind of body type.

What impressed me most about Warp + Weft is how many great styles the brand offers across so many sizes, which made me think this is a brand dedicated to offering jeans to an inclusive customer base. There are a variety of both classic and trendy styles to choose from, which is important to note, especially since many skinny jeans tend to come in one particular look.

Warp + Weft sells coated jeans, distressed jeans, destroyed hems, and colorful denim for more adventurous wearers. For that reason, I gave the Petite MXP — with its stretch-blend fabric and exposed pull-ring fly zipper — a test run. The pants were slim-fit down to my ankles (though a little long in the inseam), sculpting every curve from my hips to my calves for a seamless look. The exposed fly detail is out of my ordinary aesthetic, but I was delighted to see how fashion-forward and understated it looked at the same time.

For a more classic affair, a representative of the brand told me that the JFK mid-rise skinny is the “hometown favorite” because it comes in the widest variety of fabrics and colors, and can be scored for less than $100.

This denim is super soft, with a touch of stretch and lift, allowing it to hug your curves without squeezing or digging into your body. A common characteristic of stretch denim is that, yes, it’s designed to stretch over time. So if you’re interested in a style from Warp + Weft, it is recommended that you order a whole size down to bypass this issue.

Pros: Fun and trendy details, wide variety of sizes

Cons: Petite inseams run too long, may loosen over time

The best jeans with minimal stretch

Why you'll love them: The ethically-made High-Rise Skinny Jeans from Everlane are made with a high-quality Japanese fabric that's 98% cotton and 2% elastane.

Everlane has two skinny jean fits available for women — a high-rise and mid-rise, with different washes and lengths (ankle and regular) available for each.

Since I’m a petite woman at 5’3, I opted for an ankle-length style, which fit my frame perfectly without hemming or cuffing (those who are shorter may need additional alteration). What I like most about this Everlane pair is how structured it is compared to the other brands in this shopping guide. The company used cotton with a mere 2% elastane for a touch of stretch.

In other words, this style is less likely to stretch out or get baggy over time. Some shrinkage did occur after giving the pair a wash, but after a day or two of squeezing back into them, the jeans eventually gave way back to the original size.

As with all Everlane products, these jeans are produced under ethical and environmentally-conscious processes. And at $68 a pair, the price isn’t too shabby either. I highly recommend Everlane denim if you’re a woman who prefers her jeans to hold her in at the waist, but don’t expect these pants to do any favors during a large dinner.

Pros: Two lengths available, transparent ethos

Cons: Sizes max at 32 in European sizing (roughly 13/14 in US sizing)

The best skinny jeans for curvier bodies

Why you'll love them: Liverpool Jeans“cross fits” its styles across multiple body types, which means these skinny jeans are designed to flatter curvier silhouettes.

While I myself have a relatively straight body shape (there isn’t much of a difference from my waist to hips), Liverpool is known to make a great pair of jeans for other varying body types. Liverpool employs a “cross fit” innovation process, which has the brand reworking jean styles until it accommodates most everyone, including wider hips and muscular thighs and calves.

Even though a handful of women may all be the same pant size, Liverpool ensures that its jeans will also fit and flatter across the board. Liverpool told me the cross fit begins with a professional size four fit model, followed by a personal test run by co-founder Jill Perilman who makes sure all points of measure grade are also consistent in a size six.

From there, a whole array of samples are cut from sizes zero to 12 and tested across many women staffers at Liverpool for diversity. Feedback is collected, samples are revised, and fit/construction issues are addressed before a style goes into production. As you can tell, Liverpool takes this process very seriously.

The most popular style, the Abby Skinny, is a classic mid-rise that is offered in 16 different washes and up to a size 16. The denim is super-soft with a generous amount of stretch without feeling like the style is going to bag out.

I would compare the fit similar to the way compression workout leggings feel — form-fitting around the legs with plenty of give for those aforementioned curves. As a petite woman, I found myself having to cuff the hems a few inches, but overall, Liverpool has made a great pair of affordable everyday jeans that can easily translate from day to night.

Pros: Designed to flatter multitude body types, many washes and sizes available

Cons: Not available as a high-rise, style runs a bit long for petites

9 things you should know before getting a dramatic haircut

haircut

A dramatic haircut can refresh much more than your appearance. Chopping off hair is bold, independent, and freeing. Consider Audrey Hepburn’s iconic haircut in "Roman Holiday," or Frida Kahlo’s real-life decision to crop her hair soon after divorcing Diego Rivera.

For many people, getting a different style feels freeing and invigorating. However, ensuring the time is right for a change is wise.

To learn more about making thoughtful hair decisions, INSIDER spoke to several professional stylists. Arsen Gurgov, founder and owner of the Arsen Gurgov Salon, Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist and creator of OUAI Haircare, and Franck Izquierdo, co-founder of IGK Hair Care, all shared their wisdom.

Think it through

Should you trade those long, dark tresses for a bleached pixie cut? Give it some thought. In general, getting a major haircut on a whim spells regret. As Gurgov explained, dramatic haircuts might completely change a person’s appearance, so that deserves some serious thought.

Wait a few days

Big life events often precede big style transformations, but this doesn’t mean you have to rush into anything. "Don't make any emotional hair decisions!" said Atkin. "I think waiting five to seven days after a big life change is a good rule."

When a client asks for something substantially different, Atkin said she asks a ton of questions before agreeing to make the cut.

Izquierdo also cautioned against making major hair alterations when stressed or angry. If a layered bob still feels right a few days after the stress has passed, then book that appointment.

Consider the upkeep

Stylists create intricate curls, updos, and other borderline magic hairstyles with ease. But how much time will you spend perfecting those looks without help? Before giving a serious cut, Gurgov makes sure the client can confidently recreate the style on their own. If learning some new skills to keep those side-swept bangs looking fresh sounds like fun, then chop away.

8 beauty tips from around the world that Americans haven't heard of yet

beauty lessons

The world is a very diverse place, but if there's one thing that women all over the globe have in common it's that we want to look and feel beautiful inside and out. However, the definition of beauty is different in every culture, and women everywhere have their own secrets and rituals for achieving their desired look.

Here, we take a look at beauty lessons to be learned the world over, from French girl chic to renowned Asian skin care.

Somalia: Embrace multitasking beauty

There are only so many hours in a day, so women in Somalia have found a way to squeeze in their beauty rituals: They wear face masks and hair treatments around the house as they cook, tend the kids and do other chores. The typical face mask is a homemade concoction that blends the spices turmeric and qasil with water. In their hair, they apply henna for natural color.

Japan: Slap yourself silly

You don't need to handle your skin with kid gloves. In Japan, women apply moisturizers, serums, and more with vigor: They slap on facial products to stimulate circulation and to avoid tugging on skin with rubbing motions. In fact, American beauty mogul Elizabeth Arden followed this technique, using spoon-like utensils to slap product onto the skin.

Scandinavia: Saunas are your friend

Heating things up in a sauna is the secret beauty weapon of women in Scandinavian countries. They believe the treatment helps detoxify the body of impurities and view it as part of an overall healthy lifestyle that promotes natural beauty. Plus, it's a nice warm escape from the chilly climate.

  • Monae also delivered a powerful speech while introducing Kesha's performance.

The Time's Up initiative may have made its public debut at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, but Sunday night's 2018 Grammy Awards proved the movement is still going strong.

Several artists wore white roses as a show of support, and Janelle Monae did so in a creative way.

janelle monae

There were several nods to Time's Up in Monae's outfit, from her choice to wear a black suit to continue the red carpet "blackout"of the Golden Globes, to the floral patterns on her jacket, lapel, and earrings.

She even made a statement with her hairstyle, wearing a subtle clip adorned with white rose shapes to accentuate the new blonde streaks in her hair.

Janelle Monae

While most attendees chose to honor the movement by either carrying an actual white rose, or clipping one to their outfit, Monae's choice to incorporate the symbolism down to the way she styled her hair made it resonate even more.

After hitting the red carpet, Monae introduced Kesha's emotional performance of "Praying" by giving a powerful speech.

"To those who would dare try and silence us, we offer you two words: time's up," Monae said to the crowd.

  • In lieu of carrying a white rose, Lorde sewed an excerpt from a Jenny Holzer poem into the back of her dress.

On Sunday, people attending the Grammys wore white roses to take a stand against sexual misconduct and show solidarity with the Time's Up initiative.

But Lorde put her own spin on the protest. Instead of carrying the flower, the singer sewed a Jenny Holzer essay into the back of her Valentino dress

My version of a white rose — THE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOM — an excerpt from the greatest of all time, jenny holzer 🕊🌹

A post shared by Lorde (@lordemusic) on Jan 28, 2018 at 6:09pm PST on

"My version of a white rose — THE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOM — an excerpt from the greatest of all time, Jenny Holzer," she wrote into the caption of her post.

Here's what the poem said:

"Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take courage, for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstance can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed of disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom."

The piece was part of Jenny Holzer's "Inflammatory Essays," a series of at least 15 short texts published between 1979 and 1982 that focused on power dynamics, gender, and social change.

Lorde's fans think it was a powerful statement.

Writer Olivia Hope called it "art in action."

One person said the message was so powerful it made her tear up.

Lorde was the only woman nominated for Album of the Year award — and the only nominee not offered a solo performance, according to Variety.

Khloe Kardashian pregnant

Since last September, pop culture fans have been spiraling with rumors of whether or not Khloe Kardashian is pregnant. For months, many speculated the alleged pregnancy, looking for clues in everything she posted on social media. Eventually, on December 20, Kardashian revealed that she and boyfriend Tristan Thompson are expecting their first child together.

Kardashian's expected due date is reportedly not until late March or early April, but in the meantime, fans are loving each pregnancy fashion look that the celebrity is serving.

Here are 6 Khloe Kardashian pregnancy looks that fans can't get enough of.

She didn't shy away from sparkles over the holidays.

The Kardashian/Jenners are known for their outrageous, bold fashion, and being pregnant was not going to stop Kardashian from celebrating the holidays in true style. Kardashian stepped out in a silver, shimmering jumpsuit by Yousef Aljasmi and looked truly festive. Paired with a white and gray fur coat, the outfit was perfect for the holidays

She looked glam and romantic around New Years.

On January 2, Kardashian rang in the new year with Thompson in a form-fitting black dress and shimmering eyeshadow. What really topped the look off, however, was an over-the-top fur coat that screamed "glamour."

She rocked a dark blue dress with a red lip.

While doing press for the second season of her new show, "Revenge Body," Kardashian stopped by Jimmy Kimmel on January 4 in this navy blue, cut out dress by Cushnie et Ochs. Paired with a coat by Galvan London, her makeup design by Hrush Achemyan, as well as hair by Andrew Fitzsimons, are the perfect finishing touches.

She went for a more angelic look for "Ellen."

Also on press day, Kardashian swung by the Ellen Degeneres Show in a skin-tight white dress, once again by Cushnie et Ochs. Stylist Dani Michelle paired Kardashian's dress with a white duster by August Getty Atelier. Altogether, the look was simple, elegant, and, of course, stunning.

Kardashian didn't forget to shout out her glam team, however, writing in an Instagram post, "Bigger the hair - smaller the bump! Lol it's all about proportions! Glam killed it!!!"

She rocked a brown coat while going to get ice cream.

On January 11, Kardashian was spotted at Topanga Mall in Canoga Park, California grabbing ice cream with her sisters. She ensured that her outfit was, once again, on point, sporting a brown mini-dress and long, lighter brown overcoat. The real stars of the outfit, however, were Kardashian's stunning lace-up heels that perfectly matched the ensemble's color palette.

She looked fabulous in matching outfits with her "pregnant twin."

On January 12, Kardashian unexpectedly wore the same outfit as KKW Beauty's Tracy Nguyen Romulus, who is also expecting. The two wore black Naked Wardrobe dresses paired with YEEZY boots. Kardashian added on a long black coat as well.

In an Instagram post, Romulus wrote, "I've been feeling like such a whale lately and so frustrated with getting dressed in the morning but felt so much better after seeing how gorgeous and glowing Khloe looked in our non-pregnancy pregnancy outfit."

Kardashian commented on the picture, writing, "And oh my god if you are a whale than what the f**k am I?!?? You're gorgeous and a fabulous dresser."

  • Kim Kardashian West posted nine semi-nude pictures on Monday — and she faced backlash for each of them.
  • Khloe Kardashian thinks it's perfectly fine and defended her sister on Twitter.
  • "I'm just living for it all. Confidence looks great on you Keeks," she wrote.
  • Body-shamers, mom-shamers, and Lindsay Lohan have criticized Kardashian West's recent social media presence.

Editor's note: Some of the images below may be considered NSFW.

On Monday, Kim Kardashian West defended herself against mom and body-shamers after posting nine semi-nude pictures on Twitter and Instagram — and Khloe Kardashian was living for it.

Kardashian took to Twitter on Monday night to cheer on her sister's recent no-holds-barred social media presence.

"I am squealing like a little pig looking at all of Kimberly's Instagram's [sic] from the day! Oh my God is she not soooooooo on fire right now? FEELING THE FANTASY," she wrote. "Between her pictures and her clap backs.... I'm just living for it all. Confidence looks great on you Keeks."

In the majority of the photos Kardashian was referencing, Kardashian West appears to wear nothing but a white thong, an oversized fur coat, a sheer white shirt, and gray socks.

Mom- and body-shamers alike sounded off in the comments of Kardashian West's Instagram pictures.

"These pics must make your kids really proud," one person commented. "She looks plastic I can't deal," someone else wrote. "You fat," another person said.

And some people came to her defense.

"I cannot stand some of these ignorant comments ESPECIALLY from other women. We should be pulling each other up not judging another female because we don't agree with her lifestyle," someone commented.

Another component of Kardashian West's look was her controversial "Bo Derek braids," which some said amounted to cultural appropriation.

When Perez Hilton posted a picture of Kardashian West's braids on his Instagram, plenty of people criticized her hairdo — including Lindsay Lohan.

"I am confused," Lohan commented on the picture.

"You know what's confusing.....your sudden foreign accent," Kardashian West responded.

Based on her general social media presence lately, it seems that Kardashian West is fed up with fending off haters.

Hi, can I get zero fucks please, thanks

"Hi, can I get zero f---- please, thanks," Kardashian West captioned an Instagram photo, in which she appears to be talking on a landline phone while holding a cellphone.

After all, yesterday wasn't the first time she's faced backlash for posting NSFW photos. In the past few months, Kardashian West has been under fire for posing in nothing but glitter, topless in bed, and seemingly naked with a blanket.

But based on yesterday's social media storm, it doesn't seem like she'll be slowing down anytime soon.

13 photos that show how Olympic style has evolved since the first Winter Games in 1924

olympic fashion evolution thumb 4x3

At the very first Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France in 1924, athletes wore bulky wool sweaters, long skirts, and hardly any safety gear. Today — as athletes all over the world prepare for the 2018 games in Pyeongchang, South Korea — Olympians favor sleek, aerodynamic looks engineered for speed.

Olympic style has changed a lot over the years, adapting not only to changing tastes but also to the increasing intensity of winter sports. A new photo collection compiled by Getty Images shows just how dramatic these changes have been.

INSIDER asked senior archive editor Darrell Ingham, who curated the photos, about some of the collection's highlights. Here's a glimpse into the evolution of Olympic uniforms.

At the very first Winter Games in 1924, the British bobsleigh team wore wool sweaters — and zero safety equipment.

"There's very little regard to any form of safety. There's no helmets," Ingham said. "They're [just] leaning in and holding on."

The name "bobsled" came about because of the way the riders bobbed back and forth to increase their speed on the course, according to the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF). Perhaps that's what this quartet was doing the moment this photo was captured.

These bobsleigh outfits from 1992 reflect the sport's shift from leisure activity to competitive sport.

IBSF notes that, in its early days, bobsleigh was an activity for rich and famous ski resort guests — not a sport you trained for. Today, athletes train year round, honing their speed and strength so sleds move at speeds up to 93 miles per hour

Advanced uniforms and gear can't save an athlete from making mistakes, though. Look closely at this photo and you'll notice that one team member is sitting the wrong way.

"All that time, all that training, and he's jumped in the wrong way," Ingham said. "What kind of conversation do you think would be going on at that point?"

In 1936, outdoor Olympic figure skating necessitated heavier, warmer clothes.

Ingham said the male skater's baggy trousers were known as "plus fours." They got their name because they extended four inches below the knee, according to the New York Times.

Paris Hilton dressed up as Kim Kardashian — and the resemblance is uncanny

  • Paris Hilton dressed up as Kim Kardashian West for the new Yeezy Season 6 ad campaign.
  • Kardashian West posted the photos to Twitter, and people are loving the results.
  • Kanye West recruited several social media influencers to recreate Kardashian West's paparazzi photos as part of the campaign.

When Kim Kardashian West was spotted wearing pieces from Kanye West's fashion line in December, many thought she was simply being a proud and supportive wife. Turns out Kardashian West was actually putting the wheels in motion for West's new ad campaign.

West recruited a group of social media influencers to model the latest pieces from his Yeezy Season 6 collection, and all of them recreated paparazzi photos of Kardashian West wearing the same outfits.

While all of the models were faithful to Kardashian West's looks, none of them were as surprising as Kardashian West's former boss, Paris Hilton.

Hilton recreated Kardashian West's entire look — from the gray sweats and white sneakers to the platinum silver hair. She looked like the spitting image of Kardashian West at first glance.

Kardashian West paid homage to Hilton's status as the original famous socialite by dubbing her "The OG" on Twitter, which Hilton seemed to appreciate.

People cannot get enough of the random decision to include Hilton in the campaign, calling it a "pop culture moment" and pointing out the uncanny resemblance between the two.

Kardashian West used to be Hilton's assistant before her "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" days, so it looks like their relationship has truly come full circle.

  • The royal family is currently on an official tour of Norway and Sweden.
  • Kate Middleton wore a pair of $130 Sorel snow boots while attending a hockey game in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • She made the popular boot look trendy and chic.
  • The practical boots are becoming popular among celebrities.

If anyone can make clunky winter gear look trendy and chic, it's Kate Middleton. While on a royal visit to Stockholm, Sweden, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a pair of Sorel snow boots— and  managed to make them look cool.

kate middleton sorels

Middleton wore Sorel's Tivoli III Boot in black for a casual, athletic look. The shoe usually retails for $130 (£91.60 GBP) and still seems to be in stock on the brand's website, among other retailers.

The stylish Duchess put her own spin on the practical shoes. Middleton offset her sporty footwear with a shearling Burberry coat, maroon sweater from the Swedish brand Fjällräven, and faux fur knit beanie.

And while this particular shoe might seem like a random choice, the practical boot has become increasingly popular. In the last few weeks, Theresa MayElizabeth Olsen, and Lily Collins have all worn a variation of it, according to the Daily Mail.

Olsen and Collins both wore the boots at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on January 22.

Collins styled her boots with a striped sweater.

Emma Stone got a perm and it completely changes her look

  • Emma Stone's makeup artist Rachel Goodwin shared a photo of the two getting perms together.
  • The result is more subtle than typical '80s-style voluminous curls.
  • Julianne Hough and Jenna Dewan-Tatum have also tried the "modern perm."

When it comes to hair inspiration, Emma Stone is high up on the list of celebrities with enviable locks. Her latest look is a surprising throwback and one of her most daring choices yet.

Stone's makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, shared some photos of the two living out their '80s dreams by getting their hair permed. Her Instagram post shows the duo's hair wrapped up in orange and blue curlers while they wait for their new bouncy waves to develop.

"We have a permanent bond!" Goodwin wrote in the caption. "Some friends get tattoos, well we get perms! We’re here to tell you that they are BACK and they're not your grandmas perm! Especially when you are in the amazing hands of @mararoszak and @bykileyfitz at @mare_salon #curlyisthenewstraight this is the #newwave."

While the final result appears to have been removed from Goodwin's slideshow, Twitter user Emma Stone Daily  managed to capture it in all of its wavy glory.

The result isn't quite the mile-high voluminous curls from decades past, but more of a beachy wave look that many are dubbing the "modern perm."

Stone isn't the only celebrity to bring the style back. Julianne Hough and Jenna Dewan-Tatum have experimented with a perm as well.

Anyone wanna bring back the spiral perm with me?

A post shared by Jenna Dewan Tatum (@jennadewan) on Jun 13, 2016 at 2:35pm PDT on

While we don't know if this trend will actually catch on, we do know thanks to countless viewings of "Legally Blonde" that Stone should refrain from getting her hair wet for at least 24 hours in order to maintain "the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance."

People are furious with Zara for selling a $90 checked skirt that they say is cultural appropriation

  • Zara is being accused of cultural appropriation over a $90 skirt.
  • People claim that the skirt resembles a lungi, a sarong frequently worn by men in South and Southeast Asia, East Africa, and some Arab countries.
  • The skirts have similar designs, but the Lungi's breezy silhouette serves a practical purpose and Zara's seems to be for aesthetics.

Zara is being accused of cultural appropriation over a $90 skirt that some people think looks like a lungi, a sarong frequently worn by men in South and Southeast Asia, East Africa, and some Arab countries.

Here's Zara's $90 "Check Mini Skirt."

zara skirt

Like a traditional lungi, which typically costs less than $5, the $90 Zara version also has a slit in the front and ruffles. While the Zara skirt seemingly has these details for aesthetic purposes, lungis are designed to be cooling in hot weather.

lungi

People on Twitter are furious with Zara.

One person said the skirt was insulting. "Zara is selling Lungi and calling it 'Flowing Skirt with Drapped [sic] Detail in Front' = To me having Masala Dosa and calling it 'Pan Griddled Rice Pancake stuffed with Spiced Potatoes' on Instagram," he wrote.

Other people seemed to agree.

At the time this post was published, the lungi was still for sale on Zara's website.

Zara isn't the only brand to face backlash online. In January, H&M was under fire for selling a children's sweatshirt that some people considered racist. In December 2017, American Eagle faced backlash for selling metal bracelets that many thought resembled slave shackles.

Zara didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.
